Covid-19 Vaccine helps your immune system to produce antibodies against Covid-19.

These antibodies attack any future Covid-19 virus and stop you from getting sick, however they can reduce over time and for this reason a booster is now advised to 'boost' your immunity for the coming winter season.

*THE COVID -19 VACCINE CAN NOT GIVE YOU COVID-19*

Protection from COVID-19

After having a your 'Booster' dose of COVID-19 vaccine, most people will be protected against the virus.

There is a small chance you might still get COVID-19 after vaccination. Even if you do get COVID-19, being vaccinated can reduce how serious your symptoms will be.

Potential Effects of the Vaccines:

  • tenderness, swelling or redness in your arm where you had the vaccine injection

  • feeling tired

  • headache

  • muscle pain

  • joint pain

  • nausea

  • fever (temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or above)

All these effects are usually mild, brief (<48hr) and self-resolving.

A simple painkiller like paracetamol can help with these effects.

Rare Side Effects of the Vaccine:

  • itchiness where the vaccine was given

  • swelling of the lymph glands

  • sleeplessness

More than 1 in 10,000 people may develop Bell’s palsy (transient weakness of facial muscles).

Serious side effects, like a severe allergic reaction, are extremely rare.

  • 1 in 100,000 people

Your GP staff are trained to treat any serious allergic reactions.

In very rare cases Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been reported associated with the Flu vaccine. GBS is a condition that affects the nerves in the body. It causes nerve inflammation and can cause pain, numbness, muscle weakness and difficulty walking. You are far more likely to get Guillain-Barré syndrome from having the flu than from the flu vaccine.
